I like both Johann and Johannes. They are not at all common in the U.S. There were 3 Johanns in our family tree but when they came to America in the 1600's the names changed to John within a generation.

I can't believe no one mentioned Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the most famous composers of all time.
Johann is also the name of the other three sons of John Frederick I, Elector of Saxony and his wife Sybille of Cleves. 1. Johann Wilhelm (1530-1573) 2. Johann Ernst (1535-1535) 3. Johann Friedrich (1538-1565).
Johann (1503-1554) was the son of John, Elector of Saxony and his first wife Sophie. He later became known as John Frederick I, Elector of Saxony. Johann (1519-1519) was also another son of John and his second wife Margarete. He died young. Another John (1521-1553) was named after his older brother.
Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller was a German pianist and composer.

Also a famous bearer of the name Johann is Johann Nepomuk Hummel, a 19th-century Bohemian composer and virtuoso pianist. His is similar to that of Mozart.
One famous bearer of the name is the father of Daniel Bernoulli, the famous mathematician, Johann Bernoulli. I only know this because I had to do a 500 word report on Daniel Bernoulli for school.
