I really like Jochebed, it's a lovely Biblical name in the same way as Jehosheba. I would name twins girls Jochebed and Jehosheba now. I also like the association with the original Jochebed.
A very good mate of mine is called Jocbeth, is it possible that Jocbeth was derived from this name? She's from the Phillipines and was named after her grandmother.I really like this name, the only shame is that no one knows how to pronounce it when they see it written on a paper.
This is the only name in Hebrew that includes God's name before He gave it to Moses, which suggests that somewhere along the lines, the original name of God (no doubt known to Adam and Eve) was forgotten, replaced by the Caananite names Elohim and El Elyon. Much like the Chinese Shang Ti and Korean Hananim, and Incan Viracocha. Might I say also that Jochebed is both lovely and powerful as a woman's name?
