This name just makes me cringe. It doesn't even sound that nice. Why not Jenessa? At least Jenessa is a name and makes sense as one.
I named my daughter this. No French person (my best friend, my boyfriend, my international student, among others) has ever batted an eye, and both she and I have received compliments re: how pretty it is over the years.
Are you sure this word is even used as a name? Anywhere?
Very pretentious and dumb as a name. You might as well name your kid "Teen". Also, it's way too obvious that it is a word in French. Use an actual French name instead.
This is my name. I realize it's French, but many common words are names, as are locations and even ideas. What sounds good in one language may not sound right in another, but it certainly isn't demeaning.
Yeah, but names that mean things in other languages might simply be derived from them, or are words with positive meanings that make sense as names, not just random words. I personally don't like the name in any language.
What a dumb name. This would sound ridiculous in France because of the meaning. In English, it would just sound stuffy, ugly, and fake.
To those who are thinking of naming your child this - don't. Sure, it sounds refined and all (as do most words in Romance languages), but as one of the users said above, it's almost like naming your child 'teeny-bopper'. So don't. Please. For everyone's sanity.
I doubt French people use this name. It would sound very strange on old women. On English speakers, it would just sound pretentious.
I think this "name" should be moved to the User Submitted lists. Or deleted altogether. It's just a French word and almost slang (like "teeny-bopper") and doesn't deserve this sort of status among established names.
This is no name in France.
Previous poster, je suis d'accord! My take on this word is that it is used by the French to mean "teenager".
