Yes, this is a name the Mayans used. 'Rainbow lady' is a very beautiful meaning... Unless you're not into it, in which case I strongly recommend checking out Aanakwadikwe, which means 'cloud woman' in Ojibwe.
I know a girl named this, and it’s pronounced ick-shell. But be careful when considering this - people, for some reason, call her “eggshell”...On a side note, it’s still very pretty.
I've fallen in love with this name. I first heard it in the film "Apocalypto", when a village woman prays to the goddess Ixchel. The pronunciation sounds so beautiful and soft. I love the spelling as well. (It's very Mayan, and I like names with "x"s in them. It looks cool :) And I love mythological names. This name is very uncommon, but not unusable outside Mexico. It's far simpler than other mythological names, like Xochiquetzal. If you are thinking about naming your daughter Ixchel, go ahead. It's a lovely name with a beautiful history.

I like pronouncing it "IKS-chul". It sounds cool and different.
