This is a very beautiful name, what my father gave me. We are Finnish Tatars (turkotatars who migrated long ago to Finland). Ismo means Ismail, and it sounds like an expensive brilliant or something like that. Mysterious and oriental.
This is a bit of a middle-aged man's name nowadays, and the first thing that pops into my head is, indeed, some trashy middle-aged man with a beer belly, a stubble from a few days, and greasy, brown hair. Let's just say that this name doesn't bring a very intelligent person to mind. I didn't know this was supposed to be a form of Ishmael, as the name is far from Biblical in the sense that if it came up in the Bible instead of Ishmael, people would laugh themselves to death. This is a trashy name.
