Meaning & History
Means "powerful queen" or "rule strongly", derived from Greek ἶφι (iphi) meaning "by force, mightily" (compare ἴφιος (iphios) "strong, stout") and ἄνασσα (anassa) meaning "queen" (feminine form of ἄναξ (anax) "lord, master"). This was the name of several characters in ancient Greek mythology, including one of the Nereids.
