Beautiful name! Can't speak for the rest of Italy, but this was a very common given name for girls born around 1890-1900 in and around Melfi in Potenza. It isn't etymologically related, but I've seen Clara used as an Americanization of Incoronata (for Italian immigrants that come to America and adopt an anglophonic name). I think this is only because there's no easily-recognizable English-language variant of Incoronata, and they probably deemed Clara as "close enough". It's a shame, though, since this is such a beautiful and unique name. On another note, I wonder what the diminutives of this name are, if there are any!
