İskender Pala is a Turkish Divan (Ottoman) Poetry Professor and author of best seller novels. He also used to write a column in the Turkish daily newspaper Zaman.
İskender is also a type of döner in Turkey. My favorite Turkish food, as a matter of fact. It's sliced beef over cut pita bread, topped with tomato sauce and melted butter.There is also a city in the south-central part of Turkey called İskenderun, which translates to "Alexandria" in English.
