I came across the name in my family tree. It’s the Welsh version of Hugh. It’s not a bad name and considering I have Welsh ancestry I like it. I’d probably use the English version for naming a child or use it as a middle name.
In Wales, the "H" is dropped in pronunciation to become uw as in ewe.
Not overly famous, but... In the 2016 BBC TV series 'Class', this is the name of April MacLean's father, a folk singer and fiddle player who spiraled into alcoholism and attempted suicide. He is portrayed by English actor and singer Con O'Neill.
