Modern Hindi transcription of Sanskrit हृषीकेश (Hrishikesha), an epithet of the Hindu god Vishnu meaning "lord of the senses", composed of Sanskrit हृषीक (hrishika) meaning "senses" and ईश (isha) meaning "lord". A notable bearer of this name was the Indian filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee (1922-2006).
