Holger Louis Nielsen (1866–1955) was a Danish fencer, sport shooter, and athlete. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. He is probably best known for drawing up the first modern set of rules for the game of handball.
Holger Cahill (Edgar Holger Cahill) (1887 - July 8, 1960) was the National Director of the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration during the New Deal.

As an addendum to my last comment.. I guess I'm the only one who does like the name! I think it's very masculine, but also timeless (I can imagine someone of every age with it). Holly is also possible as a nickname. There is a character named Holger in the novel I'm working on too.
