Meaning & History
Modern form of Hǫðskuldr, an Old Norse name with uncertain etymology. It could be a variant of Old Norse names HagustaldaR "owner of an enclosed area" (compare Icelandic hagi "pasture"), or of Hǫskollr "gray head". It could also be derived from Old Norse haukstaldr "man (poetic)" or a combination of hǫð "battle" and skuld "debt".
