Meaning & History
Possibly derived from Greek ἱππόδαμος (hippodamos) meaning "tamer of horses", itself from Greek ἵππος (hippos) meaning "horse" and δαμάζειν (damazein) "to tame". This was an epithet of individual heroes, and of the Trojans.Alternatively, the second element may be derived from Doric Greek δαμος (damos) "the people", a variant of δημος (demos).
