Hermann is another name for Arminius, a former Roman commander who, after discovering he was a Germanic who was captured during his youth years, betrayed Rome and saved Germany from being a part of Rome during the Battle of Teutoburg, resulting in Roman forces withdrawing from Germania. What's sad is that post-WW2 Germany has omitted Arminius from history for being a symbol of nationalism, even though he was the liberator of Germany. In fact, the Battle of Teutoburg was one of the biggest turning points in history. Without Arminius, Germany would've been Romanized; having some new Romance Languages dominating the land and having the German culture replaced by Roman culture. History would've been much different too.
