Meaning & History
Derived from either Greek ἁρπαλέος (harpaleos) meaning "devouring, consuming, grasping" or the Greek verb ἁρπαλίζω (harpalizo) meaning "to catch up, to be eager to receive". The latter is closely related to the Greek verb ἁρπάζω (harpazo) meaning "to seize, to snatch away, to carry off". Harpalion is the name of several characters in Greek mythology.
