Despite being the god of the underworld in Greek Mythology, Hades is not evil like his depictions in modern media, he is actually one of the more well behaved of the major Greek gods.
In ancient Greece, there were more spellings for Haides than the one that is listed in this entry. Those are listed here:https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%BE%8D%CE%B4%CE%B7%CF%82With that said, I would think that a proper latinization of Haides would actually be Haedes, as -ai- in Greek usually becomes -ae- in Latin. For this, compare Phaidros vs. Phaedrus, Timaios vs. Timaeus, and so on. This (slightly different) Wiktionary article below does seem to confirm my thought, since it lists Haedes as the Latin form:https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%CE%91%E1%BC%B5%CE%B4%CE%B7%CF%82Couldn't it be that Hades is actually a variant spelling of Haedes, or an anglicized form even? The latter would certainly make sense, given the pronunciation that is listed for Hades in its entry.

I think Hades is an AWESOME name, but if I were to have a son I would never name him Hades.
Hades isn't the god of death (that's Thanatos) but the god of wealth. He just happened to work as the ruler of the Underworld. Then, it's not a evil name at all.The Disney film mixed it all. The one that hated Herakles wasn't Hades, but Hera. Same happens with the Percy Jackson film: they turned Hades into the bad guy when it was actually Ares.
Actually, Hades IS the god of Death, if you look at it a certain way. He is also called the Lord of Death and I always took this as a show of his power over Thanatos (Death is capitalized because it's a name).

I like the name Hades but I wouldn't use it as a first name. However, I love it as a nickname for Hadrian.
Pluto is the Latin name of Hades. The Greek underworld is also known as Tartarus. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were dividing up the world by rolling dice. Zeus got first roll, and go the Sky. Poseidon got the Sea. So, Hades was left with the Underworld. He became bitter and cruel in the Underworld.
I'm pretty sure Pluto was the god of the Underworld, but I think the Disney movie messed a lot of people up. Everything I've read says that Hades was only the underworld, not the guy who worked there.

I like the name Hades. Sometimes he was called Pluto and he lived in Hades, or the other way around. He was said to be mean. But really, compared to Zeus, who chained his wife in the sky when she got annoyed with him, Hades doesn't seem that bad.
Hades has a cool meaning but it doesn't necessarily relate to the underworld seeing all dead would go to Hades domain when they died and only the bad would be punished. So, when you think about it Hades isn't all that bad of a name. Though in mythology he was said to be quite a mean fellow.

Hades has quite a cool meaning, but who wants a name that is synonymous with hell?
