Gunvald Larsson is a fictional character appearing in the 'Martin Beck' book series (1965-1975) by Swedish authors Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. Several movies have been made based on the characters. Gunvald was played by Tomas Hellberg in one movie from 1976, by Rolf Lassgård in six movies between 1993 and 1994, and by Mikael Persbrandt in several (TV) movies between 1997 and 2016. Despite the popularity of the character, the name Gunvald has remained uncommon in Sweden.
