Gigi Edgley is an Australian actress, singer and songwriter. She is best known for her roles as Chiana on the series Farscape and Lara Knight in Rescue: Special Ops. In her case, I think Gigi isn't a nickname for anything.
Funniest thing about having this name is to see how people smash it up into new lil' names for me, "gg, gege, gjgj" I used to dislike it but it's really grown on me.
Gigi D'Agostino is a male Italian DJ who was huge in the 90's for songs like "L'amour Toujours" and "Bla Bla Bla". His real first name is Luigino though.
Can't stand the name myself... went to school with a strange girl named Gigi, with a German surname. We couldn't figure out if it was a nickname or her real name. I never saw this girl speak. Not once. And to top it off she was ugly lol. But, years later I met a German woman who started talking about names and she said Gigi was pronounced GIGGY in Germany. I laughed and laughed. It sounded so goofy to me, especially due to the weird girl at school. I named my hamster GIGGY and to me, no matter how you say it, it's a goofy nickname.
If you look up 'Grandma' in Polish you will get Gigi as one of the names. My daughter wanted me to have a fun grandma name. Not just grandma so we looked it up based on my nationality and she wants me to be Gigi because it is fun like me.

I love the name Gigi because its short and easy to pronounce. I'm Gillian so in short I am called GiGi, which is adorable.
Gigi Loren Lazzarato, better known as Gigi Gorgeous, is a Canadian model, actress, and internet personality. She is noted for publicly coming out as a transgender woman, and maintaining her public image and YouTube channel during and after her transition. My 7 year old's best friend is named Gigi, and I absolutely love it. It fits her perfectly - I couldn't imagine this sweet, beautiful and spirited girl being named anything else! Those who don't like the name probably haven't met a Gigi yet.
I like how people's attitudes have changed in the last 10 years just reading all the comments above me! From "it's a name for a poodle, sorry!" to... "there's a model, New York socialite, youtube personality, etc. named Gigi"! How much time changes. This just proves there is no such thing as a good or bad name, only thinking makes it so!
More of a nickname than a given name. Hard to imagine a Supreme Court Justice named "Gigi." A great nickname for Gwendolyn, Goldie, Gretta... or a girl who is a lot of fun, laughs a lot, and is warm and friendly.
The name Gigi is unique, common, simple, and well known. It is a perfect name for a girl. Its origin comes from Italy, Spain, and France among other countries. I personally would love to call my daughter Gigi. It is the sweetest name for a smart girl. The name resembles beauty, a warm heart, creativity, talented, and friendly, a person of nature and peace. Not only the name itself, but think about the personality a Gigi would show around others. "that girl named Gigi has a heart of gold".

Both my MIL and my mom have first names starting with G. So we are planning on naming our first born daughter both names and giving her the nickname GiGi, after the two G names. Adorable! And if she wants to use something more sophisticated she can use her full name.

There's been a trend over the last few years with grandmothers of new babies deciding they want to be called Gigi, not Grandma or Grandmother; Gigi isn't a popular name for a baby to start with, but this might make even fewer people consider it.
My daughter is 3+ months. I named her Gigi because My father in law's mom was called Gigi in our language. In my language, I named my daughter Gigi doa. Doa is tlicho for dora marie after my late mother in law.
A splendidly marvelous nickname. Wonderfully dressed in an antique glow; beauty, cosmopolitan, an old-world charm. I had a relative (now deceased, regrettably) who held it-- which certainly gives emphasized life to my fondness of "Gigi."The pronunciation favored personally is "GHIH-Ghee"; hard "G"s.
My real name is Georgine, but I have been called Gigi by my family and friends since I was a baby. I love it! I get so many positive comments on it, and will probably name my first girl Gigi. In a time where parents are trying to outdo each other with long, fancy names, Gigi is a breath of fresh air!
I would think this could be used as a diminutive for any female French name beginning with G. Geneviève, for instance. And not even just French names, as some comments mentioning using it for Georgia. I think that's adorable.

This is a pretty unique name. Often when I hear the name Gigi, I think of a popular girl from someplace like New York or Chicago.
Gigi is the name of the black cat on Kiki's Delivery Service. He is hilarious. And yeah it's a girl's name, but it's a Japanese show so it could mean something else to them.
This name makes me think about an old, very rich woman who lives in a mansion and is over-the-top in every single way. This sounds like a better name for a poodle.
There is a character in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events whose full name is Esmé Gigi Genevieve Squalor. She is vile and greedy.

My name is Georgia, but I nicknamed myself Gigi when I was little. I couldn't remember how to spell Georgia, but I could remember the two G's. So I announced my name was Gigi. That's pronounced GEE-gee, with no "Z" sound. I gave up Gigi at age 8 when we moved across the country. Still kind of regret it.
Gigi is also a cute nickname for a girl with the name Giana or Gianna.
