Giambattista Basile was an Italian fairy tale collector, notable for writing the Pentamerone, a collection of Neapolitan fairy tales (many of which are quite graphic and definitely not for little kids) and the first collection to contain exclusively fairy tales.
Actually, in Italian, names like Giambattista, Gianluca, Giada (any names with G+I+vowel) slur together into one syllable. So Giambattista is really pronounced jahm-ba-TEES-ta.
