This name has actually many variations, and it's quite common here in Brazil among the Silent Generation, but even more by the Baby Boomer generation. Gessi, Gessy, Geci, Gecy - all possible and common variations. I'm not sure, but probably the soap and hygiene products company Gessy, founded in 1913, made the name stuck in Brazilians' popular references and imagination. Again, I'm not sure on this as well, but I truly believe that Geci and its variations are somehow related to the name Geneci/Jeneci, and again, I believe (no sources at all besides my own thoughts) that all these names mentioned are of Tupi-Guarani origin, these two languages being the most influential indigenous languages in Brazil, adding a lot of vocabulary to Brazilian Portuguese. The names have a "Tupian sonority" to them, specially considering these are mainly feminine (though sometimes gender neutral) and all end with -cy sound, and "Cy" in Tupi-Guarani means "mother", and it can be seen in words and names like Jacy/Yacy, "mother of the vegetables", which is also the Moon goddess. But I've never found a specific meaning to these names, ever. Also - my paternal grandmother was named Gecy, so that's why I'm interested on researching the name.
