Gerry Adams Sr. Was a Belfast Irish Republican Army volunteer who took part in its Northern Campaign in the 1940s. He has also been described as "important in the emergence of the Provisional IRA in 1970".
I much prefer the spelling of Jerry. Gerry just doesn't look nice at all.

It's ok as a nickname for either gender. But definitely not as a full name.

This name is also used commonly in The Netherlands, for both men and women - though the name is most common on women. The Dutch pronunciation for Gerry is: KHER-ree. [noted -ed]
The name Gerry can be spelled like Geri as well, and it means spear-ruler, it has originated from Old English. It does come from the name Geraldine, though it can also come from Gerald. Though in my case, I am just Geri, not Geraldine.
