Genya, mother of the main character in the Henry Roth novel "Call it Sleep." Editors, please change this to feminine name. [noted -ed]

The only Genya I have met was female (pronounced GYEH-nyə - the 'G' said similarly to the soft 'J' in French). When looking at historical death records it's evident it has significant feminine usage as well as masculine usage with concentrations in Russia, Belarus, and surrounding regions.
In the Grisha trilogy written by Leigh Bardugo, Genya is a female character. The name alone is very feminine and I don't see it masculine in the least!

There is no such name. Dimunitive of Gennadi is "GE-na".Dimunitives of Yevgeni and Yevgenia are Jenya or Jeka (both pronounced with a French-sounding J, like "jolie").
