I've always thought that Gavin was a very handsome name; I think that it's seriously underused. I'd consider this name for a son, because it's just so nice. If you're thinking about using this name, I say to go for it.

The name Gavin is a athletic and strong name please do not hate on it. I am bullied for having the name. I am called gay Gavin or Gayvin. Do not hate the name for being bullied, take pride in it.
I am so sorry to hear that you have endured bullying, especially over something as simple as a name… No one deserves that… However, just know that I think your name is awesome! The meanings “hawk” and “God send” make it even cooler! I know that it's easier said than done, but try not to let the bullies get you down too much. They're probably just jealous of you or insecure with themselves. Don't let them tear you down, though. Keep going strong.
Gavin means “God Send” and “White Hawk.” It also draws images of a knight at King Arthur’s Round Table.

Gavin is a handsome and sophisticated name, but still modern/cool enough that it’s not stuffy or trying too hard. I’ve only known two, both came from nice families.

I think it's a decent name, though it seems to be getting somewhat popular in my area. Not a girl's name at all.
My name is Gavin! All of my friends say GG to me. Then there is that one kid in the back who says, yeah, Gay Gavin! None of my friends care, then I feel like they hate me, and they just don’t talk to me just because of who I am friends with. I just wish in life, I have a chance to get new and better friends as I am going into middle school. I already have a bunch that I am going to keep though because I have known them a while, and there are some of my friends that I love being my friends. In life, just think it doesn’t matter what your name is, or how people think about you. Play life how you would like to play it.❤️❤️❤️.

I love this name because my twin’s name is Gavin ❤️ I’m Gigi. He is my soulmate and best friend. We’re so alike that we’re almost one person! There was just too much awesome to put into one person, so God split us into two.
I really can’t believe, reading through this, no one has mentioned the British comedy series “Gavin and Stacey”. When I think of the name Gavin all I think of is the Male eponymous protagonist in it.
I like this name because my brother is named Gavin, but hate everything else about it and it sounds bratty and annoying on anyone else that isn't my brother.

Gavin is my name. It's funny ,I know one other Gavin besides me. I have been called 'Gayvin' before- it's annoying but it's life. I think it is cool to have a name not everyone has.
I'm surprised so many people like this name. That was actually my given name at birth and I hated it so much I changed it to Kyle. It's funny, everyone always talks about how great of a name Gavin is because it isn't common, but that was the exact reason why I hated it. Unusual first names for kids can make life a lot harder for them than most parents realize unfortunately. :/

I never used to like this name, but that was because I knew someone who had it for a last name, who was kind of... well, creepy. I don't really know how my impression changed. But to make a long story short, the more I hear it, the more I actually like it. It's not some preppy name like Aidan or Braden. It's actually a nice name. I would definitely name my son Gavin.
I like the name. It's unique and I haven't met many people with the same name as me. I guess it was the name of a knight on the round table? All I know is it's a Welsh derivative of White Hawk and is kind of common in Sweden (where my ancestors were from). Growing up I've never actually had someone call me "Gayvin" unless it was on accident. Maybe I just got lucky.
My son's name is Gavin. I absolutely love it and it fits him perfectly. It's not overly popular at the moment which is what I love about it but I have noticed, while playing travel sports I hear more and more kids on other teams with the name. There are only a couple in his school though. I like the fact that it isn't every other boys name and I hope it stays that way.
Great name. Don't hesitate to use it. Just because someone can make fun of a name doesn't mean that you shouldnt use it. Every name can be made fun of.

What hesitates me from using this name for a son is not its popularity but the fact that if you where to draw a line (or a tail) after the letter V, you would get "Gay in" I do like the name but that causes me to back down from it a bit.

This name is very popular where I live (So Cal). It's a cute name that works on a little boy and adult.

In my opinion, this name is very odd on a young boy. It's dated to the 60s-70s in the UK so I'd be very surprised to meet a Gavin who's under 40.

I've never really liked this name, both because of the sound and its current trendiness. It makes me think of a spoilt brat with yuppie parents.
I had an ancestor born in the 1750's or 60's in Northumberland (England) who spelled it "Gawin". I can't tell if it's Gavin with a "w" or Gawain without the extra "a". Either way, it's interesting to see how names evolve over the years.

It is a ugly sounding name and has no appeal to it.
I like the King Arthur connection, but I don't really like the sound of this name. Also, this name is completely masculine. It comes from the name of a knight, how could it be feminine? Just because someone gave their daughter a boy name doesn't make the name feminine.
My cousin is naming her baby this. At first, I wasn't crazy about it, but I've grown to like it. The first thing I think of when I hear this name is Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco, where I live. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not name your daughter this. It is such a masculine name that I would hate for a little girl to bear this name. I mean, I also don't like the name Taylor on girls, but that is just my opinion.
I really like this name, although it reminds me of the recent tragedy of Sherri, Gavin and Garrett Coleman who's father killed them in their own beds.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Gavin MacLeod, the Captain on The Love Boat. He was also on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I could never name my son Gavin because I'd constantly have The Love Boat theme song running through my head. "Love, exciting and new... Come aboard... We're expecting you..."
I hadn't ever heard of this name until a friend of mine said that her little cousin's name was Gavin Jude. Gavin's older sister is Ivy, and I think that the two names make a great sibset. But I don't think I would name my son Gavin. I just think it's cute.
I love the name Gavin. I used it as a character name, and my Gavin is smart, but comes off as a bit confrontational because the Gavin I've met was that way - belligerant, but very likeable.

I love the name Gavin. I like the Arthurian Legend connotations as well. :)
Gavin is a wonderful name. It is derived from medieval times from the name Gawain, one of the knights of the round table. Gavin is Welsh for white hawk.
I saw the name on a decaying headstone in the local cemetary, it read "Mrs. Gavin .." the rest was illegible. Anyway the name left a beautiful impression on me and 5 years later when I gave birth to my son it was his name immediately. 3 days after his birth I was informed by his great grandmother that the headstone was his great great grandmother's (on his father's side). My son has been a beautiful person from the day he was born, his sense of humor developed before he was 10 and he has had me laughing ever since. He has had his 'boys will be boys' days but he is a genuine good person and I know he is destined for great things. I truly believe that 'GAVIN' is a name worth remembering and considering for your child. I am not happy with most definitions of the name Gavin, I did not pick it based on its meaning from a website, but I do hope my comment has touched a part of you if you are considering the name. Thank You.

This name is great! I hope that it doesn't get too popular. I have heard it's on the rise. It's different and a very strong name to me. I don't hardly hear it. I like that! Something a bit devious but in a loveable, likeable way. =) I would totally name my son Gavin!

My first son is named Gavin. Several sources I've seen say it's Welsh for "little hawk".
Gavin is the name of one of the knights of the round table. It's a somewhat common name and one of the people who share this name is the singer "Gavin Degraw."
