Handsome and mature. I don't care about the Friedrich Nietzsche association.
Classic German name.
I always thought this was *the* traditional stereotype name for traditionally stereotyped Germans (pre-World War stereotypes, anyway), but no one in the comments have said so, so maybe I had the wrong impression. (Thank goodness, because I have a German story-character I love and wanted to name him Friedrich, but was worried about following stereotypes.) I'm not sure where that impression could have come from, besides reading about the rather awesome Professor Friedrich Bhaer in Louisa Alcott's book "Little Women".
Old-fashioned and harsh in sound. Besides, I hate Nietzsche with a flaming passion. He has influenced so many horrendous people to kill others and to view people as too weak and unfit for the world. Hitler is one, but some school shooters have been known to worship the man.
WAY better than USA's Frederick.
Yeah because USA is a language! I think that if I were to name my son this or Frederick we would call him Fred regardless so I may choose to use the English version over German to simplify things.
