I don’t think of this name as dated. I can picture it on any age. The nickname Frank does sound dated.
Honestly it sounds nerdy and extremely old fashioned but I like it for some reason.
Reminds me of Franklin from GTA 5. That isn't a bad association for me at least (Trevor from GTA 5 is a hell no). Franklin seems like one of the nicest characters on the game. But it isn't a nice name, imo. I may warm up to it later, though. It would be okay as a middle name.
I personally like this better than Frank. It may be a little surnamey but I can easily see this as a cute first name.
I prefer Frank.
I like it! Much better than Frank!
It's really cute. I like the nicknames Frank or Frankie for it.
It's not that bad to be honest.
Very strong, handsome name, my husband is called Franklin and he is a fine man!
Very dated and pretentious.
Franklin the Turtle. Also, I think Franklin is okay, but I definitely wouldn't use it. There are even some parents who decided to name their GIRL "Franklynn". I think they should get rid of Franklynn(e) altogether.
It's an okay name I suppose, but I always think of the turtle when I hear it.
I'm not sure what is so ugly about a strong name with a great meaning "free man." Frankie is a cute nickname for a boy and Frank is a strong and straight forward name as well for a man. I work in education and love Franklin the Turtle too so that's a positive association for me. Also there were some great men in American history with this name. It's strong yet simple for a boy of any age.
I've always hated this name, it's very ugly.
This is a cool, fun, dignified & friendly name! I don't think the character Franklin the Turtle makes the name unusable. :-)
So cute :) although I think it might remind children of the TV show about the turtle named Franklin, it probably wouldn't be that big of an issue and you can always use the nicknames frank or Frankie, which are adorable as well!
I like the name Franklin a lot, perhaps because it's my brother's name, but also from the use the nickname "Frank" can have, yes I am being quite Frank with you. I don't find it pretentious, but instead dignified. The name has a lot of good history.
I hate this as a first name. It's a good enough surname, but it doesn't really sound right as a given name. Kind of pretentious.
