Fotini Gazi is an authentic Greek food blogger.https://www.realgreekrecipes.com/about/
Fotini Peluso (1999-) is a Greek-Italian actress known for the roles of Nicole in 'Romanzo Famigliare' (2018) and then Barbara in 'La Compagnia del Cigno' (2019-).
I went to high school with a girl named Fotini. She pronounced it "foh-TEE-nee."
My birth name is FOTINI but, as the Greeks pronounce a T as a D I have changed it to FODINI. I go by the name of Dini.
The Greeks do not pronounce t as a d. It is just "unaspirated" (like the t in "stop") rather than "aspirated" (like the t in "top," which has a puff of breath after it). It sounds somewhat like a d, but there is still a difference. It's voiceless while a d is voiced.
I believe the transcription provided for this name is wrong (or vice versa), in that the name of this entry is Fotini but yet the transcription says that it is Foteini. [noted -ed]
Re: the transcription of the name. It is indeed correct. In Greek, it is Φωτεινή, with an epsilon iota. In Greek, it is pronounced "fo-tee-NEE" or "fo-tee-NYEE."
Re: the transcription of the name: There are six ways of writing the sound "ee" in Modern Greek (though one of them is rare).
"ei" (or rather epsilon iota) is indeed one of them. They were all pronounced differently in Ancient Greek. When transliterated, an "i" is often, though not always, used for any one of them. (For an account of Ancient Greek pronunciation, see the book Vox Graeca, by W. Sidney Allen, now available as a free download! Fascinating! (For example, the bleating of a sheep was written in a way that would then have been pronounced, "ba, ba" (a like the a in "bat"), but would now be pronounced "vee, vee"!)
I have a friend of Greek parentage called this - she goes by Fifi.
