This name is also in use in Brazil, Italy, Portugal and The Netherlands. In most of those countries, the name is fairly rare. Florinda seems to be most commonly used in Spanish-speaking countries in South America.A known bearer of this name is the Brazilian actress Florinda Bolkan (b. 1941): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0093030/ [noted -ed]
I'm not crazy about the name Flora itself, but at least it rhymes with the very common Laura and the pretty Cora and Dora, whereas this ending is a horrible bastardization of the name. I hate names that end in -inda, such as Melinda and Lucinda.
My name is Florinda, I was born in 1973, my parents are from Portugal, and they gave me my grandmother's name. This name doesn't appear very often and is quite old, but I think you'll find some 'Florinda's in Goldoni, the Italian theatre writer, and in Stephen Sondheim's musicals.
