Fernando is a sweet, sophisticated and certainly not miserable name. The only miserable part are those commenters who express misery at such a shining example of a splendid name.

I highly recommend this name for newborn baby boy if you are looking for Mexican and Spanish sounding names. I do have my high-school mate dude friend named Fernando who is humble, funny, hilarious, smart, and kind etc.. still keep in touch with him in our 30s... other than guys whom work in local Mexican grocery stores.. Other Fernando is my Gardner in my house too... like others said, it's too common name like John, Pau, Robert and Steven etc... but this name has great meanings like courageous, conqueror, adventurer etc...
While others might view this name as "super overused and unsophisticated", I am inclined to differ on such notions as I find this name as being appreciably elegant, sophisticated and timeless. One can never go wrong with a sublime name like Fernando.

Super overused and unsophisticated, nah, prefer Ferian instead of this name.
I like this name a lot since it reminds me of a person who appears to enjoy life and appreciates the small things that make life worth living. :)

I like this name because it sounds pretty changeable. What I mean by that is that I can imagine a guy named Fernando at any age, with any personality. It also sounds a lot cooler than Ferdinand in my opinion.
Fernando is a name that appeals to me because of its strong, yet gentle sound. I also like the way in which it ages well without becoming dated. A very good and handsome name if I do say so myself. Fernando is one name that reflects its meaning for adventure! :)
