Kind of sounds like the word "nice" in Polish, fajna. Made me like the name more.
Means 'nice' in Lithuanian (pron. FY-na).
Also Latvian.
Russian sources state that this name is derived from Greek φαεινή (phaeine) meaning "radiant, brilliant", so the etymological connection with Phaenna seems about right.- http://kurufin.ru/html/Translate/Faina.html (in Russian)

"Fah-eena" is what I would think would be the right way to pronounce it. If saying it quickly, it would sound a little like "Feye-na" ("feye" as in "eye")
Faina Ranevskaya was a Russian actress and comedian.
I liked this name when I thought it was pronounced fay-NA. Now that I know the "true" way to pronounce it... not so much.
It is pronounced: " Fi-ee-na "
There is no letter "H" as in "-hee-" mentioned before, that would be wrong. They have troubled with the pronunciation of my name Faina all my life, Americans tend to say Fina as in Fine - which is also wrong, so I changed it to Faena, but they still can't get it right, sometimes they say Fiona.
I think that this is a very pretty name, as it sounds mysterious though kind.
