Meaning & History
From Latin Ezechielis, which is the genitive of the third declension of Ezechiel, the biblical Latin form of the Hebrew name Yechezkel. In some countries (such as England and Germany), this has been used as a Latin form of Ezekiel since at least late medieval times until about the early 20th century. With that said, the name Ezechielis is also in use in Lithuania, where it is simply the Lithuanian form of Ezekiel. As far as I know, the circumstances of the name are different in Lithuania than in England and Germany, meaning that it does not derive from the Latin genitive like it did in those countries.
