Meaning & History
Aeolic and Doric Greek form of Eurykratides, because it contains ίδας (idas), which is the Aeolic and Doric Greek form of the patronymic suffix ἴδης (ides). This name was notably borne by a Spartan king from the 7th century BC. Contrary to most other Spartan kings, he is not typically known under the latinized form of his native name, which in his case would be Eurycratidas. Instead he is usually known as Eurycratides, which is a latinization of the aforementioned Eurykratides, an Attic Greek name by origin.
