‘Fem’ is a cute nickname for it.
Eufemia von Adlersfeld-Ballestrem (1854–1941) was a German aristocratic novelist. She was born in Ratibor, Upper Silesia, but later settled in Munich. She was one of the few German female writers of the 19th century who did not use a pseudonym.
Also Galician (albeit rare): http://www.ige.eu/igebdt/esq.jsp?idioma=gl&ruta=onomast/nomes.jsp
Also used in Poland.
The actual Portuguese form is Eufêmia, not Eufemia. [noted -ed]
I love this name! I prefer this spelling to Euphemia. Eufemia sounds prettier with an F in it as opposed to a PH, but Euphemia is nice too. Effie would be a cute nickname for it.
Pronounced eh-ooh-FEHM-yah. [noted -ed]
