Etta Cone (1870–1949) and Claribel Cone (1864–1929), collectively known as the Cone sisters, were American art collectors, world travelers, and socialites who were active during the first part of the 20th century. Claribel trained as a physician and Etta as a pianist. Their social circle included Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Gertrude Stein. They gathered one of the best known collections of modern art in the United States at their Baltimore apartments, and the collection now makes up a wing of the Baltimore Museum of Art. Their collection was estimated to be worth almost a billion US dollars in 2002.
The first time I ever saw anyone else with my name was in the obituary column of our local paper. It was for a 98 year old Lady from Bryson City, North Carolina. I went to a private school and one of our English class lessons was to read the newspaper daily. This was in the fourth grade, so I was around 9 years old. Saw it again later that year when I read about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the Time-Life book The Outlaws. She was the paramour of Harry Longabaugh aka The Sundance Kid. I was fascinated. Of course, I learned, not much later, of Etta James. The first experiences with my name that were of the positive sort. Before that, I most often was made fun of because of my name. Afterwards, meh, water off a ducks back. ROCK ON, Etta's of this world ~
The first thing that comes to my head when I hear Etta is the famous singer Etta James. Other than the fact that Etta is an underappreciated and underrated name, it is a very sweet name that should have a higher ranking in terms of popularity.
In 2018, 68 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Etta who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 1, 574th most common female first name for living U.S. citizens.

This is such a pretty name! A good alternative to the way overused Emma and Ella.

I don't really like this name, because it sounds incomplete to me. Like there should be something in front of Etta, such as the name Henrietta.
My step-grandmother's middle name was DeEtta. I've never seen it anywhere else. Her daughter and a friend gave their daughters the DeEtta as a first name.

I don't like this name because it sounds the same as the terrorist group ETA. Nasty associations.

Love the sassy, classy, old school sound of Etta. Of course it makes me think of Etta James!
I hate all names ending in -etta, they all sound like names of unintelligent country girls from several decades back. This is just a minimalist variation of all those hideous names.
