Just made an account to leave my first comment about this name. Honestly for unknown reason I feel immense attraction towards the name Esther. It "murmurs" in my head and sounds really charming like a lullaby! I adore this name! Definitely would name my daughter with that name. Cheers!
I like this name! Esther from the Bible is a good role model for your daughter if you name her this. I feel like it would pair really well with a middle name starting with "L"!

Esther looks and sounds nice to me. Unfortunately, it feels like a very creepy, eerie, and evil name due to the 2009 horror movie called "Orphan". That movie ruined this name for me!
I know a girl named Esther, and she is really toxic and mean but otherwise I think it is a nice name.

I stand in perpetual awe of Esther's luminous beauty, the dusty sparkles of constellations that embroider it. It is written in lapis blue and silver like rhinestones. The pronunciation is stressed but not nasal, and is actually rather pleasant. I can see it typed in a very standard-looking font like Times New Roman. It's pretty, in a common way, but not overrated.
I really love this name, Esther is such a strong name with a beautiful name meaning. I am Brazilian so it's written Ester, but I prefer Esther. In my personal opinion I prefer this name rather than Estella (nothing against the name itself but I'm not a big fan of it) and the pronunciation is also another reason why I love it! When I have my own child, if it's a girl I will name her Esther Cecília (meaning would be like 'blinding star' since Cecilia means 'blind'). Anyway, I'm not a catholic but one more kudo is because of the story of Queen Esther from the Bible that is such an amazing story!
It's our daughter's name and we immediately agreed on it. Only got compliments about it. It's both classic and not too common. It's pronounced the same way in many languages. We're a mixed French - Israeli family so we wanted a name that works in French, English and Hebrew, Esther checked it all :)
I think this name is beautiful. To those who say it is an "old lady name", names aren't "old lady names" forever. Trends just come and go, and almost always cycle back around after awhile. Names like Lillian, Charlotte, and Caroline were once considered "old lady names" and now they're everywhere. And, in 80 or so years, Olivia, Sophia, Isabella, and such will be considered "old lady names". In fact, I have a feeling that this name will make a comeback in the next decade or two!
Someone said the name would go great with Walter, I wholeheartedly agree! I love both of the names and I think Esther is elegant and beautifully old-fashioned.
Esther Greenwood was the protagonist of Sylvia Plath's novel The Bell Jar. That book was how I became familiar with the name, and I fell in love with it immediately! Sure, it's a little old-fashioned, but I think that adds a little more charm to it. It's already become one of my favourite girl's names of all time!
I meet surprisingly few Esther's in life. But the few I have met left great impressions on me, and both were young. I have added it to my list for possible future daughter names.

Esther is a very beautiful name. I love it, it is one of my favorites.
I prefer the Latvian version of this name, Estere. To me it just ages better, and is a little more cute, but also formal and beautiful. But this is nice too!
A good, classic name, unique and not overused. It’s interesting that many consider it to be a Jewish woman’s name. All of the Esthers I know are of Hispanic descent.
SOOOOOOO PRETTY! I’m not even being sarcastic. I can’t say how much I love this name because I love it too much and my friend is called Esther.

My name is Esther. I've always been okay with it until I visited this website. I absolutely hate when people say that this name is terrible. I get very upset when seeing this, this isn't an old lady name, those old ladies were once young. If your name is Esther, please don't get insecure about your name because these stupid people are writing their opinions on this name. I know this site is for writing your opinions but if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it because these comments can really hurt someone or make them insecure about their name. Like my name is Esther and I'm far from old, in fact, I'm still in middle school. I'm usually not a very inspirational person but, put yourself in their shoes, look at your comment twice before sending this. What if someone said that about your name.
A friend just named her daughter Esther. My grandma's sister who would be over 100 now (I was always scared of as a child) was named Esther. Old lady name!

It's kind of pretty, but I don't think I'd use it.
This is my name but my name is spelt differently. My mother wanted to call me Beātrise but ended up calling me Estere. It is unique, it is a really powerful name.
My best friend is called Estere, which is a Latvian version of this name and I think it's nice. But my friend prefers it spelt 'Estere' as she thinks it's more unique, and I think so too.

Esther was a powerful woman in the Bible. Also, I really like this name.

Sounds very old fashioned and not in a good way. The nicknames are even worse.
When I associate Esther with stars and secrets, I love it. But I usually associate it with old Jewish woman. Ester looks more modern and cleaner, and Aster, though a different name, does the same. Aster means star in Greek, like Esther does in Persian, and it's a cool flower. Plus, it's really uncommon. I only know one Aster, and zero Ester's, but a ton of Esther's. While Queen Esther was great and all, young me going to Hebrew School always got tired of hearing about Esther and grew more interested in Vashti. I guess I also associate my boredom as an eight year old with the name, too. Still, it's nice, just Ester and Aster are better, in my opinion.

My name is Esther and I really thank my parents for giving me such a beautiful and holy name. There is no other name I wish to answer to. I know a number of girls who are called Esther. To all Esthers please do not let anyone make you think twice on your name, trust me if I were to be born a million times into this world I would still prefer to answer to the name Esther.

I love my name since I'm Jewish and Esther is a Jewish name. I really hate it when people say it's ugly in the comments, like someone said "such an ugly looking and sounding name... ugh" and someone said "it sounds like an old lady name" LIKE NO LADY, IT DOESN'T, OKAY!" I love that my parents named me this.

Anyway, I don't like the name Esther. It's such an old lady name and just has an unattractive sound to it. It's good that no one seems to be naming their child this moldy old name.

My name is Esther and personally I don’t like it when other people spell it without an H but that is okay. I like the name Esther, not just because it is my name, but because it is in the New Testament. New Testament Esther stands up for herself and her beliefs. This is amazing considering she would have died along with the rest of her family and friends. The meaning star is such a beautiful meaning too...

I like the name Esther, I personally think it’s a somewhat useful name. It’s not one of my favourite names but it’s not bad it reminds me of the character, Esther Smith from Meet Me in St. Louis, so it’s not horrible.

My name is Esther and I absolutely love my name! Everyone tells me how pretty my name sounds and I’m from the UK so it’s not that common. I believe my name sounds unique and it’s not a name you hear everyday.
I thought that Esther was a masculine name but I just haven’t noticed the name until I was 13. This name as a feminine name has grown on me a lot and I don’t really see it as a male name anymore. It’s a very beautiful girl's name to me now. Tiana is still a lot more feminine than Esther but both names are girl names that are left terribly on a boy.

Perhaps the ultimate dowdy old lady name. Almost as dull as Karen or Kay as well. Ugh.

Lovely meaning, and if you follow the Old Testament, Esther is a great role model to name your daughter after - she was a brave young woman. Estie is also a very sweet nickname.
Sounds like either the name of a crazy old lady or something that extremist Christians would name their baby to show how much better they feel than everyone else. I absolutely hate the name Esther.
I don’t know of any English speaker who would not know how to correctly pronounce this. Maybe a child, but once you know that sometimes “th” can make the “t” sound, and that such is the case with this name, it’s not a problem. Plus, it’s not like it’s a rare, unusual name.
My kitty cat was named Esther. She was a sweet little cat. Esther isn't too overused. I like the spelling "E-s-t-e-r" better so as to not pronounce it wrong. It's a very nice name. :)
I really like how it sounds. Although, I'd recommend spelling it like "Ester" if you live somewhere where people speak English, because they would pronounce it mistakenly like "ES-TH-ER"... which is nice, but I'm not sure is correct.

Esther has such a strong, understated sweetness about it. It's a beautiful name with a lot of meaning and history! And I think it could suit almost anyone.
My name is Eszter and I'm Hungarian. My father named me after my great-grand mother. I think it was more popular earlier. I know only one person called Eszter. I don't think it is a nice name but I get on well with it. By the way, some call me Eszti as a nickname. I like that it is written and pronounced differently than in other languages.
It's my best friend's name and I like it. Both its sound and its meaning. As a nickname we call our friend Estie. She loves her name too. Though she absolutely hates when someone mistakenly calls her Estera.
This is my name and I love it! I have only met one other Esther, plus it's got a great meaning. (Star, hidden.) It sounds soft yet strong, in my opinion.
Quite aside from the fact that I love the story of Queen Esther, I just love the sound of this name. It's soft and feminine, but still has a strength to it. It's beautiful and definitely one of my top choices.
A splendid name for a woman. "Hester" is a nice variant, too. =)

Can't help to think that you have to use the 'TH' sound on this name. But you don't. Just 'EST'-'HER.' Beside the biblical name is a very classic name. It reminds me of the Asian comedian on Girl Code named Esther Kuu.
Why on Earth would someone name their child Esther? First of all, the spelling could cause people to pronounce it "ES-ther" and not "Es-ter". Both pronunciations are horrid to say. The name Esther is also only suitable for an old woman and does not go well with anyone under 60. I think it's just an awful name, it sounds a bit odd, and it is old fashioned but not timeless.. there is nothing good about this name.
Esther is a really pretty name! The h makes it look kind of weird, but Ester doesn't look right. A couple years ago I met a baby named Esther, and I remember thinking how ugly it was. But a lot of names have grown on me since then, this being one of them!

This is my name. My dad liked the name Esther. Since I was born and raised in California (large Hispanic population), my name was frequently misspelled as "Ester".
My name is Esther, and I love it. Esther has several meanings: star, morning star (sun), and hidden. The most famous Esther is Queen Esther, born Hadassah, the heroine who helped save the Jews. Esther is noted as being the most beautiful woman in the land. Esther is also named in the Gemara as one of the four most beautiful women of all time. Esther is Persian, Hebrew, Jewish, and Biblical. My personal favorite Esther (other than the heroine) is Esther Williams, famous swimming beauty, movie actress, and singer. As mentioned above, there was a horror movie called Orphan with the tagline "There's something wrong with Esther." However, I don't want to spoil the movie, but I will say that Esther was not the character's real name: She actually took it on in order to appear innocent. Esther is a wonderful name to have and to live up to.
I have an appreciation to the biblical character Esther and really like the name. I agree with black_lace. The name does sound soft and "airy". Like a breeze or a whisper.
I'm called Esther, and apart from being called Easter or people writing it Ester or Esta, I've generally found it a good name. There aren't many Esthers around so I've always enjoyed being the only Esther in school and stuff.Downsides are that it isn't shortened very well, I'm not that fond of Est and Essy, and at the minute some people consider it a name their grandparents might have, not something youthful. Although I do know a few people who've recently called their babies it. It's more popular with Christians.
I love how elegant and old-fashioned this name is. For some reason, it makes me think of lace. It sounds so soft and gentle. I think it would be lovely to be named after the Biblical character Esther.
Well my name is Esther (in the French way (but I'm not French, well I am a French speaker but I'm Canadian)). It's a nice name I think, I have only met two others in my life with the same name as me (they were both well past 60 and for me it was a shock for I felt that my name wasn't really old, I was 6 and 12 when I met them). What I like about it is two things: first my father gave it to me (I know that's really not something really useful for you but it is important for me) and second because it's biblical (not that I care for religion so much whatsoever). It exists in almost every country in the globe(even if not so popular) so it's pretty rare that someone does not know how to pronounce it. Of course they all have their own way. Like in Denmark (where I live right now) they say it like Est-tha. I like it that way it's really nice I think.
My name is Esther, I really like my name. But it is popular, I know almost 10 people named Esther. Especially, they have Christian parents or they are Christians. I can't understand why they choose this name, maybe they want to be a queen?
