Sounds like a ghetto pronunciation of Esther.

This is actually a very pretty name! It's pronounced ES-ta, not es-TA like the Spanish word for is. Although I have to admit it does look weird written down, especially in a Spanish speaking country or the US.

Weird. It's like someone heard the Spanish word and decided they liked the sound. Plus, this sounds like a bit of a ghetto pronunciation of Ester.

To the above poster: It's perfectly fine to dislike the name, but calling it a "ghetto pronunciation of Esther" is quite rude. Don't make fun of people's accents!
