I personally like this name because of its symbolism. It pops into my head a lot when I'm thinking of names for my stories (which is why i wish it wasn't used for the Little Mermaid movie). It's a really cute name for a boy, and I recommend it for someone looking to name their baby.

Eric Taino is a retired ATP Tour American tennis player, who later represented the Philippines in international competition.
Eric is a very masculine, distinguished, sharp and handsome sounding name for guys... I don't care how popular this name is regardless of ages. I know around a dozen folks named Eric, but all of them are super cool and funny and hilarious and love cracking jokes all the time. My thoughts on this name : The name Eric is a classic, timeless name that has stood the test of time. It's a name that conveys strength, power, and leadership, and has been popular with parents for centuries. Even though its popularity has waned in recent years, it's still a name that is well-liked by many people including me ofc... not to mention it means RULER.
Eric Moussambani is an Equatoguinean swimmer. Nicknamed Eric the Eel by the media, Moussambani won brief international fame at the 2000 Summer Olympics for an extremely unlikely victory. Moussambani, who had never seen an Olympic-sized swimming pool before, swam his heat of the 100 m freestyle on 19 September in the unprecedentedly slow time of 1:52.72. This was the slowest time in Olympic history by far, and Moussambani had trouble finishing the race, but he won his heat after both his competitors were disqualified due to false starts. Although Moussambani's time was still too slow to advance to the next round, he set a new personal best and an Equatoguinean national record. He later became the coach of the national swimming squad of Equatorial Guinea.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned actor Eric McCormack, who championed a stunning performance as Will Truman in the award-winning series, Will & Grace.

Eric Nam (Korean: 에릭남) is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality based in South Korea. Since his debut in 2013, he was named GQ Korea's Man of the Year in 2016, included on Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia in 2017, and honored as one of YouTube Music's Global Trending Artists on the Rise in 2019.
I think Eric is really pretty! And the same people complaining about the name being outdated are the same people who complain about some names being too trendy. I think it's cute.
This is just one of those names that I love for myself and others. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound good with my surname, it rhymes. If it works for you, go for it!
Eric Sevareid (1912-1992) was one of America’s most legendary war correspondents and television journalists. His name was actually Arnold Eric Sevareid, but he went by his middle name.
One of the Columbine shooters, Eric Harris shot and killed 13 people along with Dylan Klebold.

Captain Eric Moody was in charge of British Airways flight 9, in which the Boeing 747's four engines were disabled by ash from an Indonesian volcano. After gliding out of the ash cloud and restarting the engines, the crew landed safely at Jakarta without injuries nor loss of life. During the incident, Captain Moody made an announcement which went down as "a masterpiece of understatement": "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress."
I’ve been studying An Inspector Calls in my English classes, and of course I’ve been hearing this name a lot more. Now I don’t like the character much, but I’ve gotten used to this name after hearing it more often and like it more than I used to. Might consider it as a middle name, but it is also a nice first name.
Famous bearers of that name are African-American man named "Eric Garner" who was killed by NYPD officers in Staten Island of New York USA on Thursday 17 July 2014 & Madison Police Department officer named "Eric Parker" who slammed Indian national named "Sureshbhai Patel" to the ground in Madison of Alabama USA on Friday 6 February 2015!

This is my dads name. I think it’s nice, and it had good meaning, and history. It’s a very good name. If you’re thinking about naming your kid Eric, I say go for it!

When I was a kid, I hated girly stuff, so I didn't play with dolls. I play with legos with my sister, using the lego figures as dolls, building custom adventures and lands for them to live in. We both had a figure that was "us", but way cooler. Kinda like a DnD player who just plays a cooler version of themselves. My sister had hers named after her, and I was a girl with a ("rare") crossbow. Mine was a boy. Mostly looked like a lego me, but male. His name was Eric. He was strong and smart and confident, everything I wanted to be. Later I discovered I was Trans (big shocker, right?) and my name is Eric. Yeah, I like this name.

Kenneth Eric Church, goes by Eric Church; a country music singer/songwriter.
Absolutely beautiful name. My grandfather and father were/are called Eric and my sister Erica, so if I have kids I want to name one of them Eric/Erica to keep the tradition growing.

This is my name. I’m 58. Growing up was easy. I loved the name and my interest in it was wild. I am so happy to be an Eric, and I am so glad to be so loved by everyone, considering it’s simple and sweet. It’s also quite attractive, somehow. I also expected it to be WAY more common. I have enjoyed my ride throughout my whole life, and I wouldn’t trade my name for anything else.
Eric Saade is a Palestinian-Swedish singer who represented his country in 2011 Eurovision with the song "Popular". He qualified for the semi final and cracked the Top 10. He also hosted the 2016 Eurovision, acting as the "green room" host.
This can be a good nickname for the names Emmerich, Frederick, Maverick, and Roderick.

The name Eric makes me think of the colour blue and dark grey, the ocean and the storm.I prefer the form Erik but its vibe is the same.It is a strong and wild name linked with nature in my mind.

I've always liked this name. I don't think it's as common as people make it out to be, at least not nowadays.
An okay name, but just kind of boring and definitely overused. I don't like the spelling with a K on the end, it should end in a C. The best thing I can say about it is that it is a very strong and masculine name. I HATE the female version though- Erica/Erika just sounds so ugly and not very feminine.

I find Eric Trump to be an idiot as much as his father because he kills endangered animals for sport and considers democrats to not be people. But I still like this name, preferably Erik.

I've always disliked this name but now I have to like it because of Eric Trump...
My name is Eric and I was named after my grampa. I enjoy that my name is unique and awesome. What is this kingship crap, I'm just a guy that is no king by all means.
Three theories of origin: 1. [mentioned here] from "ever" + "ruler" 2. From "honor" + "ruler" 3. [unlikely] from "sole" + "ruler"The first and the third would be from Old Norse. Apparently, only the second one can be reconstructed in Proto-Germanic, therefore after my deduction the German form 'Erich' can only come from the second theory because 'Erich' went through the High German consonant shift.See https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Eric
As having the name "Eric" since 1968, I've grown to like it, and like the meaning of my name: "Honorable King". So, thus, I want to keep up that name to be always honorable, even though, now I am not a King! It also has a meaning of Powerful, Ruler. I like Power, what other Eric's, don't?
To all of those concerned with the truth of the three true spelling of Eric, there is a universal hierarchy known to us. Eric is clearly the dominant spelling and the only proper spelling of this magnificent name. Erik can constitute an acceptable person however they amount to at best a low "C" on the human scale. In comparison to Erick however, an Erik can appear as a model citizen. Erick could be considered a mole person.. that's it. Eric wins.
Eric is such an ugly name. I always picture a geek when I hear this name. It also has a weird sound to it.

Eric Yamamoto, the Korematsu Professor of Law and Social Justice at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, is an internationally recognized expert on issues of racial justice, including racial reconciliation and redress. Flowing from the landmark Korematsu v. United States case, he is known for his work as a member of Fred Korematsu's legal team.
Eric Ken Shinseki is a retired United States Army general who served as the seventh United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs. His final U.S. Army post was as the 34th Chief of Staff of the Army. Shinseki is a veteran of two tours of combat in the Vietnam War, in which he was awarded three Bronze Stars for valor and two Purple Hearts. He was the first Asian-American four-star general, and the first Asian-American Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
This has always been my favorite male name and when I used to contemplate having human children I always said I'd name my son, if I had one, Eric. I know the one with the k-ending spelling is more popular but I highly dislike it. But what really is an eyesore to me is the ck-ending spelling. That's atrocious and unnecessary. Eric with a c looks so classy, gentlemanly, strong, and what a courageous boy or young man would suit bearing accordingly. Now that I've decided I won't be having kids, I'll either name one of my cats in the future Eric or a character in one of my stories will be an Eric.
It is I! An Eric! I like the name a lot myself, especially with a C in the spelling. I make it a point of mine to surpass every Eric I meet, and I'm doing well so far. There are a bunch of Erics at my school now, but I've been here for longer than all of them. Only one of them is older than me, but I believe I've surpassed him, too, which is good. Now, the hard part will be surpassing the likes of Eric Carle, Eric Clapton, and Eric the Red. Overall, I really like the name, but I wouldn't use it for my kid since I'm not a narcissistic asshole. I would do it if it made him The Third, but he would be Jr., not the Third. And being called by your number makes you sound like a king.
Eric = So strong & forthright. Clean & Tailored. Crisp & clean. "My Eric" I have known since we were 7 yrs old. I really liked his name then, and I still do 40 odd years later. Eric is very masculine sounding, sexy and just a sharp individual. When I am talking with females about "my Eric" it's interesting that to describe my adoration, respect, absolute & unconditional & very profound love for him, I address him as my King - and I his Queen (of course). #1 with me.
I keep wanting to name characters Eric or Sam. Which is funny, because my cousin's name is Eric and my aunt's name is Sam... but I guess that's because they work on anyone. Erik, Erick or Erich are spellings of others I've met. Never met someone named Aric.
Eriks is the Latvian form of Eric. It's my grandfather's name. He was born in Latvia, and mostly goes by Eric nowadays.

Eric is a strong name for a male. I really like the way it looks and sounds. I've been fortunate to know only good people with this name. I would probably hate it otherwise.
Eric is also used in Portugal (and not so much the "Érico" version).

My son's middle name is Ayrik. It was a name I'd heard (At least in pronunciation) in the movie "Willow". I assumed that it may have used as a derivation of Eric.
I've gotten used to this name. After reading Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse series aka True Blood, I've fell in love with it. It's a very strong name and I do believe in the future one of my sons will be named this!

This is my brother's name. My mother originally wanted to spell it Erik, but that was uncommon when he was born (the 1970s). Also, he was born very sickly and she didn't want him to stand out for being sick and having a strangely spelt name, so she took the traditional route. Then he got better. Haha. But Eric is neither a jock nor is he Asian. He's a computer master who speaks to technology using his Jedi mind powers. That's what I think, anyway.
A famous bearer of this name is American actor Eric Mabius (b. April 21, 1971), well known for starring in the sitcom Ugly Betty as Daniel Meade and was also a fairly main character in Resident Evil and Cruel Intentions. :-)
Eric Satie was a French composer of such famous piano pieces like "Gymnopedie' and 'Gnossiene'. His style has influenced even some rock musicians like David Bowie.
A famous bearer is American actor Eric Millegan (born August 25, 1974), best known for his role as Zack Addy in the TV series "Bones". He's also known for his work in musical theatre throughout the United States.
Eric Stuart is the lead singer in his own band, ESB. He is also a voice actor for anime shows. He voiced Brock and James for seasons 1-8 in Pokemon and Seto Kaiba in Yugioh! Duel Monsters.

See, I know this is a VERY common name. I myself think it is very manly. Plus, it's really simple and short. I'm glad it's not a long drag of letters or something along that. I think it's an excellent name to name your baby. For the weirdos who don't like the name, I think it's best not to flame on it!
Eric David Harris was a high school senior who committed the Columbine High School massacre along with Dylan Klebold. They killed 13 people and injured 24 others. Both Harris, 18 years old, and Klebold, 17, committed suicide after the killings.
Whenever I hear the name Eric, I think of Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. It's a short, sensible name. I prefer the name "Eadric," the name of a prince in 'The Tales of the Frog Princess' by E. D. Baker.

Eric means "kingly", so I think this name really is connected to the word "king".
There's a Monty Python skit called "Eric the Half-Bee". It's about a guy trying to get a "fish liscence" for his pet "'allibut" Eric (which he pronounced "Eddic"). Eric is also the pet bee in the skit (a half-bee, he had an accident). Apparently the guy in that skit names all his pets Eric.
My dad's name is Eric John and I love the usage of two such classic names. Sounds to me like a knight in medieval times. Reminiscent of chivalry and all that jazz. Of course, I could just be biased.
A very good name, very cute. My associations. -Eric Foreman (one of the main characters of "That '70s Show") -Prince Eric (in the Little Mermaid) -Erik, the real name of the Phantom of the Opera.
Eric is a very cute name but one of the most annoying boys in my class is called Eric. I can not recall a Eric I've actually liked. I think it would be this disturbing fact that'd keep me from naming my child Eric.

Eric Birling (fictional) from the play An Inspector Calls put me off this name. But he's also the handsome prince Ariel falls in love with in Disney's 1989 The Little Mermaid.
This name can also (or more likely) find its origin in the Germanic/Norse word 'Ehre' which translates in English to 'Honor.' Combined with the Germanic/Norse word for king, 'Rik' (the origin of the subsequent German word 'Reich), 'Eric' means 'Honorable King.' This is a more probable origin/meaning, as the Germanic word for 'Ever' is not 'Ei, ' but 'Immer.'
