Meaning & History
Derived from the Greek adjective ἐπίφρων (epiphron) meaning "thoughtful". It consists of Greek ἐπί (epi) meaning "upon, on" combined with either the Greek noun φρόνις (phronis) meaning "prudence, wisdom" or the Greek verb φρονέω (phroneo) meaning "to think" as well as "to be minded". Both words are ultimately derived from the Greek noun φρήν (phren) meaning "midriff" as well as "mind, intellect, wits".In Greek mythology, this is the name of a daemon (spirit) of prudence, shrewdness, thoughtfulness, carefulness and sagacity.
