Engelbert Dolfuss (October 4, 1892 – July 25, 1934) was the dictator of Austria from 1932-1934. Despite being a fascist himself, he strongly opposed Hitler and the Nation Socialists in their desire to unite Austria and Germany, believing Austria's Catholic identity sets it apart from the mostly Protestant Germans. Thus, Hitler had him assassinated so his dreams of all German people under one nation would be fulfilled.
