Emeryn nor Emryn was or is in use in French speaking areas. An Ancestry.com search for Emeryn and Emryn in France gives zero search results. The usage of Emeryn, from Emeryne, for Emerine is entirely American. Ancestral data shows only 3 probable occurrences in which Emeryn was used as a form of Emerine. There is no evidence that the pronunciation was ever altered from "Emerine", especially considering that only a few records were Emeryn, as opposed to Emerine or Emeryne for the same individual. The most visible Emeryn for Emerine was Martha Emerine Miller Austin because her gravestone has "Emeryn" despite the differences with other records. Presumably she went by both Emeryn and Emma, both names unrelated to Emerine, that at some point appear in her records as an adult. However, her granddaughter born in 1901 is named after her as Bernice Emeryn. This would be the first use as Emeryn for Emerine as a given name rather than nickname.I do not think 3 individuals, 2 of which being from a single family, should dominate the meaning of a name that has existed as a male name since the 1500's.
