I've only heard this as a surname (of the characters in Fullmetal Alchemist, mentioned above), but I like this as a first name. It would definitely stand out nowadays among all the Noahs and Jaydens.

Elric shows up as a surname in a current popular manga and anime series titled Fullmetal Alchemist (English title) and recent movie release. The series' main characters, the Elric brothers (Edward and Alphonse), are alchemists.
