Derived from the Greek noun ἐλέφας (elephas) meaning "elephant" as well as "ivory" combined with the Greek noun ἀνήρ (aner) meaning "man". As such, the meaning of this name is either "elephant of a man" or "man made of ivory", both of which imply a man who is very strong, sturdy and possibly gigantic.In Greek mythology, Elephenor is the leader of the Abantians of Euboea, who participated in the Trojan War on the side of the Achaeans. Before the war, he had been one of the suitors of Helen of Troy.
