Meaning & History
Taken from the word “elected” meaning "chosen". It relates to the passage in the New Testament in “John 2”, which is in the form of a letter addressed to “The Elect Lady and Her Children” (meaning the Christian church, but from early on was believed to be a real woman called Electa). The name Electa was first used in the United States and dates back to the 1800s. It has a particular resonance in Freemasonry.
