In the Italian translation of Harry Potter's books and movies, Hedwig (Harry's snowy owl) is called Edvige.
In Italian it is pronounced ehd-VEE-jeh. [noted -ed]

A bit old fashioned, but in any case a great name!
Edvige is the Italian form of German Hedwig, commonly known to mean "Contending Battle."
Though not one of my favorite Italian names, I like this name, and I disagree with the above comment.
Let J. K. Rowling keep these ugly names for her characters!
