I'm from Denmark and when I was little I was good friends with a girl who had this name. I wanna tell you that it's pronounced i (as in the words it or if) and then a (as in the words and or at) and put those sounds together. That's how you pronounce this name. Ea. It's not pronounced like the game company.
Though not the same pronunciation as the game company, in English, the short "i" vowel sound (as in the words it and if) is not the same as the long "e" vowel sound within the Danish pronunciation for the name Ea. The equivalent of the long e vowel sound, for example, is within English words such as me, he, be, and she, and the i vowel sound found within words such as ski, taxi, and kiwi.
In Latin, the word 'Ea' (lowercase), pronounced EH-a means "she". Stemming from Latin, the same word and meaning in Romanian is pronounced EE-a. It's a different origin to the name Ea, whose meaning and pronunciations give it an elegant, feminine quality.
I'm particularly fond of this two-letter, two-vowel name. Within the countries it's used it's perceived as adorable. It's used as a given, middle name or short form. In Norwegian (and Iceland), for instance, pronounced EH-a; in Danish (Swedish, Finnish, and Greenlandish) pronounced EE-a. I, too, think they both have a lovely sound, as is the pronunciation AY-a, which can be another option. My personal favourite is EH-a.Other options could be Èa (with a grave accent) and Éa (with an acute accent), which, depending on the language, are pronounced either EH-a or AY-a. For a female, Ea has long been my second favourite name!
Put an r on the end of it, and...
I feel bad for people named EA. I feel as if people named EA will get teased. Mainly because EA is a very hated gaming company.
There are only 35 people in Sweden named Ea. I've never even met or heard of anyone with this nickname. I know, have met and heard of plenty of women with names ending in "Ea". Linnea, Andrea, Thea, Lea, Nea, Svea, Alea. Abbreviation-nicknames for women are rare in Sweden, usually you'll be called your first name. Unless your name has 4 syllables or more, but even then you'll likely be called your actual name. The usage for this name is not Swedish. [noted -ed]
In Greek mythology, Ēōs is goddess of the dawn, who rose each morning from her home at the edge of the Oceanus.
