This is from the “Doreen" (name) Wikipedia page: “The -een suffix could also be related to the -ín suffix used in Irish, added to first names to distinguish a child with the same first name as her or his parent.” I’m not sure where they got that bit of information from, but it would make the name essentially mean “little gift” or “the child of a gift”.
It sounds like the feminine form of Dorian. I think for that reason people would get it confused with the masculine name.
