Meaning & History

Dontas, a pupil of Dipoenus and Scyllis, made some statues for the treasury of the Megarians. With Perillus he made the hollow bronze bull with which Phalaris, tyrant of Acragas (Agrigento), used to execute his victims by slowly roasting them alive inside it.
