I love this name so much! Everything about it is just so cool and attractive. I feel "Vin" or "Von" would be soooo cool for a nickname! Also, I think of the song "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan whenever I hear this name. XD.
Not very common but definitely sounds mature and sophisticated!
I like the sound of this name. It sounds cool and strong but not harsh. I love it.
Hi, my name is Donovan and I love this name. My mom said this before she died "people will love you no matter what your name is." she also said my name means Dark Warrior. I'm only 14 and when I started saying my name I thought it sounded stupid. But after my nana gave me my nickname Donny and I learned I was named after my nana (Donella) so yeah.
I really like this name, pretty obvious since I chose it 16 years ago for my only child :) his name is Donovan Ray, and this was long before the show “Ray Donovan” came out lol.
I'm surprised I haven't commented before on one of my favorite masculine names!Donovan is terribly handsome. I remember encountering a baby boy with this name and thinking it didn't sound out of place at all in the real world, despite it looking a bit elaborate / fancy in print. It's also a good Don- alternative to Donald, which is quite dated and reminiscent of ducks (among other things).
Kinda sounds kiddish.
I'm not a fan myself but it's okay! It is a fine name. I wouldn't name my kid this, but don't let me stop you. A lot of people like this name.
I named my son Donovin because it has stuck out in my head from the very first time I heard it when my mom told me who was singing the song that was playing on the radio in the car. It was like a game we played together with my older sister, Jessica. Our mom liked to quiz us on song names, who sang them and if they were in a band, what the band was called. I assume that was part of what started my love for music and appreciating the people who made it. But anyway, I kind of drifted down memory lane for a minute there. Back to the point, I think Donovin is such a sweet name for a little boy but at the same time, it´s strong and masculine on a grown man. I spell it Donovin because I wanted him to have some other options for nicknames other than Don or Donny. Some people call him Vin or Vinny, some people we are close to call him ¨The Don¨, others just call him ¨D¨ but I always call him Donovin. Lol Donovin Joseph if he's in trouble!
This is a beautiful refined masculine name and so much better than the blunt sound of "Don".
Only 3% voted this name feminine. I still think this is a cute girl name, but it would pair Donovan with Rose for a girl. Donovan Rose. Though, I think it’s better for a boy.
My name is Donovan and I get a lot of compliments from mainly women. And as far as the meaning of the name it describes exactly who I am- strong willed, brave, dark warrior... it is the basis of the name.
Sounds like the name of a preppy rich boy.
I can't even begin to describe how much I am attracted to this name. The first time I heard it was a few years back and instantly, I fell in love. Basically, I felt: "Where have you been my entire life!"
Donovan sounds extremely attractive, handsome classy\classic, FRESH\uncommon and will age well. It's a name I would give a toss in my mind if I was ever expecting a son.I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Donovan ♥.
Besides the fact it's the name of one of my favorite musicians, Don would be a cool nickname.
Awesome name! So hot and masculine. I... love this name.
I don't know why, but I'm a big guy-names-on-girls fan, but this name will fit anyone. I can imagine a 7th grader like Donovan going for his first job, and the manager saying "Wow, that's a really cool name!"
I like the name Donovan and I disagree with one of the comments, I think it's a nice boy name that doesn't sound to macho. I also like that it's Irish since I'm partly Irish but I am not fond of the meaning because I don't know who is Donndubhán, I don't know if I am a descendant and "descendant of dark brown"? The meaning doesn't mean much to me.
It's actually a cool name, but I don't like the nicknames Don and Donnie.
This is the ONLY Irish name that I like. I like how it can fit any type of personality or nationality.
I bore this name as a surname for 25 years and my kids still have it as theirs. We think it's a cool name, too. The few issues we have had have been that people tend to want to pronounce it, dah-nah-ven, when in reality, it's, duh-nuh-vin, and they tend to misspell it A LOT -- Dunovan being the most popular. My ex-husband and his family are reeeeal firm about the pronunciation though, just so you know!
I really like this name, I find it to be kinda romantic.
This name always produces good feelings when I hear it on someone, it's so refreshing instead of Michael or John or William.
I love the name Donovan. I think of it as being a name for someone who is very hip and stylish but not frou frou. What I mean is that it is very boyish and strong without sounding like a meathead's name. I would jump to use it if I was not afraid that people would just call him Donny, yuck.
I love the name Donovan. It has a catchy sound to it, like Flanagan and Sullivan, 2 other Irish names.
