From Tibetan སྒྲོལ་དཀར (sgrol-dkar) derived from སྒྲོལ (sgrol) meaning "to liberate, to save" (referring to the bodhisattva Tara 2) and དཀར (dkar) meaning "white". This is the Tibetan name for the White Tara, one of the manifestations of Tara.
