This isn’t a name I’m too fond of, as it might carry some “dew” puns, but I wouldn’t venture as to say it’s “absolutely hideous” like one user below claims. It isn’t as common, it’s pretty dated, but it makes me think of a mature man. Overall Dewey is a 6/10.
Wow, the majority of these comments are just heartless. I think Dewey is such a sweet name! It has a modern, playful vibe. It also reminds me of morning dew, which I think is a pleasant association. Overall, I love the name Dewey.
This name became very popular in the USA after Admiral George Dewey had a huge success in Manilla Bay in 1898. Even baby girls got the name! Wow! Here is a poem that was also very popular at the time:O DEWEY was the morning upon the first of May. And Dewey was the Admiral down in Manila Bay; And Dewey were the Regent's eyes, them orbs of royal blue! And Dewey feel discouraged? I Dew not think we Dew.Also of note: "Dewey Defeats Truman" was an incorrect banner headline on the front page of the Chicago Daily Tribune (later Chicago Tribune) on November 3, 1948, the day after incumbent United States president Harry S. Truman won an upset victory over Republican challenger and New York governor Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 presidential election. It was famously held up by Truman at a public appearance following his successful election, smiling triumphantly at the error.Dewey is more commonly heard as a last name. Or nickname.
This sounds really awful as a name. Don’t name your kids this.

Dewey McAdam (though it's spelt Doowee, I think) is a fictional character in the French–Australian animated television show called Sally Bollywood: Super Detective.

Surname of George Dewey, a very well-known public figure during the Spanish-American War. Dewey led the Americans in the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. It's possible that he was the cause of the spike in the name's popularity that year. The name George also took a (much less noticeable) jump up in 1898.
Dewey Denouement is the sub sub librarian in "The Penultimate Peril" by Lemony Snicket. It's book 12 in the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" book series.Dewey is also a main character in "Unshelved", a cartoon strip for librarians.I have come to associate the name Dewey with libraries, I quite like it.
Dewey was the name of that sweet little library cat, wasn't it? I don't like it on a person at all, but it's so cute on animals. I dunno why. It just suits some of them.

It's the surname of Melvil Dewey, who created the Dewey Decimal System.
The Huey, Louie, Dewey jokes would be endless if you named your son this today. Plus, since the pronunciation is identical to that of 'dewy', the guy might get a few jokes about dew and being dewy as well. This name has always sounded silly to me. Good thing it's dated.
This is not a Welsh name. It's the English form of Dewi. I'm Welsh, and a Welsh speaker, Dewey is not a Welsh spelling, it makes no sense to say that it is.
Despite the fact it looks like 'DOO-ee' (much like Donald Duck's nephew, as someone pointed out), it's actually pronounced 'DEH-wee' (much like how a child with a lisp might say 'derry'). It's another form of Dewi.
Deuteronomy Duck, called Dewey for short. Son of Della Duck, nephew of Donald Duck, grandson of Quackmore Duck and Hortense McDuck, grandnephew of Scrooge McDuck. The blue triplet.
