Cool as a surname, not a name because it's overwrought and unamazing.
Davis is a name I find very interesting, as it is less common than the name David. I've seen and met plenty of people with the name David, but I've never met anyone named Davis. I also think it would be pretty funny if someone was named "Davis Davis", as I've seen lots of people with it as a surname too.
